National&Regional 2 & Age (Towie)


Regional 
  • The Only Way Is Essex represents Essex in a negative way. This is as we see them being portrayed as vain and confrontational. In the very first few scenes we see the use of close up camera shots that convey how the people look very glamorous and there is the use of diegetic sound where we hear the characters gossiping. 
  • We also see the use of extreme close ups showing the characters giving cold looks to each other  and having beauty treatments done to them, which helps show the vain and confrontational representation of people from essex. There is also mise en scene thats used to confirm the representation of essex people being vain such as the clothing, cars, location.
  • There is also the use of fast transitioning between scenes, this kind of editing is done to help represent essex people as partiers. Other elements such as the use of non diegetic house music and the high key lighting helps to represent the party atmosphere. There is also other mise en scene which they use such as the neon lights, mise en scene location in the clubs.

Age
  •  The Only Way is essex represents young adults in a negative way. They are conveyed as confrontational and vain.
  • Also they are shown to always to be drinking, which may lead to parts of the audience thinking that people in this age group have a drinking. 
  • Additionally they are conveyed as materialistic. This is as we see them living in expensive houses, driving expensive cars

Issues- body image (Protein World Ad)


  • There is a negative representation of body image in the advert for one of protein world's adverts.  This representation is a negative representation as it creates a false representation of women and makes people feel pressured to look this way. 
  • This kind of representation is bad because it's shown from the advert producers point of view, and they are trying to convey the dominant ideology of how women should look. This is done by using a main image of a slim defined woman, with the selling line "Are you beach body ready", as if to suggest that this is how they need to look for the summer. Furthermore they feature their products which are weight-loss supplements, which may insinuate that they want other people to look like their model, which they do to pass on the dominant ideology to the audience .
  • THE WEIGHT LOSS COLLECTION  including this would suggest that the producers think that weight loss will lead to a body like this 
  • BODY POSITIONING  the model is standing tall and the picture was taken at an angle to give her power and confidence 
  • COLOR CONNOTATIONS   the yellow has connotations of summer, which is used along with the beach theme as it goes hand in hand 
  • CONSISTENT IN OTHER TEXTS SUCH AS VOGUE, AMERICAN APPAREL (SKINNY )
